Vmware server 1.4 on Engarde i686

Postby r3gis on Fri Mar 21, 2008 5:34 am

Hi everyone ,

I thought this might be useful information for some of you.

I have been able to install the newest version of Vmware server 1.4 Engarde i686 ( kernel 2.6.23-5 ).
I just had to install few additional packets from fedora repository :
XFree86-Mesa-libGL-4.3.0-55.i386.rpm
XFree86-libs-data-4.3.0-55
XFree86-libs-4.3.0-55.i386.rpm
fontconfig-2.2.1-6.0.i386.rpm
freetype-2.1.9-2.i386.rpm
libXrender-0.9.0.2-3.2.i386.rpm

and use any-any-update ver. 113 .

Just remember to add your kernel version to the version.h header:
echo "#define UTS_RELEASE \"`uname -r`\"" >> /usr/src/linux/include/linux/version.h

Could you also help me evaluate if this configuration will be stable ? I am deploying a virtual firewall server on this machine , for maintainace reasons I have to run two firewalls. In case one fails the second one should take its functions.

I also had problems with installing vmware on 64bit version of Engarde , since there are no 32bit libraries available ...

Regards
Piotrek
