Security with mmap on Linux.

Postby silic0n on Sun Jun 01, 2008 2:52 am

I had a general question on the security on the Linux box related to memory mapping. In the latest version of all the distro's the mmap_min_addr in sy/vm is set to 65535 and earlier this used to be zero. This is done to eliminate security risk. I would like to know if someone knows of some vuln which caused this change or is this because of anticipation. If so, what kind of attacks can be done by mapping address's below 65535. Any ideas/guesses.
