hi

Did you happen to try Engarde Secure Linux 3.0.19 on that machine? If so did it have the same issue?
I would be try to install Engarde Secure Linux 3.0.19 and see if you have the same problem this
way we can narrow the problem down.

Also please verify that the check sums are correct for the CD that you are using to do the install.

i found some time, i have test with 3.0.19 and i have the same error.... look:

Loading /isolinux/vmlinuz......
Loading initrdfs.gz.....

Ready.
Uncompressing the kernel... Ok, booting EnGarde Secure Linux. Please wait.
PCI: Bios Bug: MCFG area at e0000000 is not E820-reserved
PCI: Not using MMCONFIG.
cat: /proc/ide/hd*/media: No such file or directory
pivot_root: pivot_root: No such file or directory
mount: Mounting proc on /proc failed: Device or resource busy
exec: 84: /initrd/sbin/init: not found
Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init!

with 3.0.19 this one... i have check the checksum before burning the iso, and after burning the iso and was 100% the same as the original md5 hash included in *.md5 file on nluug.nl mirror... like with 3.0.20... i think is serious critical bug this.... i have not test with x86 versions, but if i must, i will...

hi Michael

EnGarde is designed and tested for being used on a server. That is why you are having issues with installing it on an Lenovo Thinkpad x61.

I have a Sun x4150 with (2) AMD dual core processors with the same problem. I am not sure what else to try. I booted it from an IDE cd drive as one post suggested but it still panic's. This is using the x86-64 bit install. Hopefully someone else has seen this and knows of a work around.

Thank you,

Bob

Hello,

Try disabling from BIOS the Intel VT option where is the case or any USB related settings.

We installed it on several computers and most of the problems we encountered were caused by non-server motherboards with strange USB related devices. For example we have encountered a motherboard that had NIC onboard which was emulated as being connected on USB. Engarde didn't work, not only that it didn't install it was throwing strange errors. After disabling that network card from BIOS and adding a PCI network card it worked pretty fine.

Thanks for the info - I suspect that would solve a lot of problems - however, my motherboard (as with MANY newer ones) does not have a legacy keyboard (or mouse) port, thus necessitating the enabling of USB. Catch-22!

Looks like it's Ubuntu time....shame, I REALLY wanted to use EnGarde.
