Name resolution issues?

Postby netwerkdude on Mon Aug 09, 2010 12:50 pm

Hi,

I did a quick search of the forums hoping to find an answer to my issue with no luck, so here goes my post. I recently setup Engarde as my dhcp/dns server for the clients in my network. When from a windows or linux client trying to surf to a site, usually the first attempt at say google.com returns a cannot find page issue, or times out. If you refresh the page a few times it will eventually load.

I have in my dns settings my ISPs DNS server set as a "foward queries to" option. Network issue from the engarde server itself is not an issue from ping tests etc. Also a nslookup from command line usually errors out on first attempt but on second or third attempt it will be successful.

Any clues as to why the first attempts drop? Thank you.

Solved but why?

Solved, but I do not understand how to fix. When I disable SELinux my clients can surf with no issue. How can I keep SELinux on but still allow my workstations to surf the internet. SELinux seems to block dns resolution.
