Forbidden error

Postby Chrimeg on Mon May 07, 2007 8:34 am

Why when trying to view our website we get the following error...

HTTP 403 Forbidden

This website requires you to log in.

We've uploaded the site via ftp, set the page to index.html. Where should we check for the problem?

hi
Did you make a virtual host via the WebTool?
And what did you set the index.html file permission too?

Yep we setup the virtual host. The HTML file permission??? We just made a website and ftp'd it as we did with other servers in the past. Never heard about the index.html permissions before. Where would we find that?

After making some changes we are just getting a blank page. I'm thinking we should just stay with IIS....Never had problems like this before.

Setting permissions on who can do what to that index.html file in important !! I like to set the permission of html files by using the command chmod 744 index.html. This way users viewing your page can't make changes to the html file but are able to read the page. Just something good to know :-)

Is there anything in the virtual hosts's error_log? Do you see any SELinux audit messages showing something being denied? Please provide us with some more information and we'll be more than happy to help you.

Cheers,
