Ethernet driver & make menuconfig problems

Postby Xertoz on Wed Jun 06, 2007 6:59 pm

Hey, I have some kind of problems here. EnGarde detects my network card all fine, but it cannot load/configure it.

What I got for a motherboard (integrated ethernet) is this: http://www.linux-tested.com/results/asus_k8u-x.html

What I've found out through a couple of hours googling and playing around is that I need to compile the drivers manually, and I tried to do so.

I finally got to the `make menuconfig` part of the process, and what comes up?
Code: Select all
-bash: make: command not found

I tried looking around for some .rpms, burnt a couple of them out but none would work to install. First of all, let us focus on ... tada: How do I become able of recompiling the kernel without network access on the computer itself?

hi
Can you please post the link or patch to where we can find out what needs to
be done (ie the driver source), So we can look into it more.

Thank you

Trying this ftp://www.uli.com.tw/driver/Linux_K2.6. ... ted132.zip as I read about another one with the same problem and card using that one (though for 2.4.x, there are a bunch of files in the same /driver/ directory) in another forum. Using AMD64 btw if that makes any difference. :P

And as stated before but not as precise, I get stuck at:
Code: Select all
------------------------------------
Install as a kernel module
------------------------------------

  Step 1:
        Change directory to /usr/src/linux-2.6.x
Use the command "make menuconfig" or "make xconfig", and make
sure "ULi M526x controller support" is set as module.
