PHP 5

I am new to Engarde. Although I saw a reference in previous emails to PHP 5, there was nothing related to my problem.
I am a programmer who has been asked to update code on an Engarde site that is highly secure.
The Engarde IT person tells me that in such a mode, only certain software can be downloaded. The server has a copy of PHP 4.
My problem is I need PHP 5 to make XMLHTTPRequest function calls.
Is it possible to load PHP 5 on a site that is as secure as this one?

Do you want to install php 5 but still be able to have SELinux in enforcing mode? Also we have
php5 packages available through the GDSN WebTool module which can be installed easily.

Yes, the question is can we run the downloadable PHP 5 with SELinux
turned on (setenforce 1)? Is it already part of the SELinux policy?

There is a SElinux policy written of PHP5 but depending on what your php programs are doing, SELinux might block some
actions.

We know how to access and install PHP 5 using the GDN using the Webtool, so I'm not too worried about that part.
- where would we find the PHP5 SELinux policy, or is it part of the most current update?
- from another post, I notice that it is not a good idea to run PHP 4 and 5 at the same time, so how would we go about
disabling PHP 4?
- I'll let WCF supply more details about the types of PHP 5 actions that we would be planning on using.

Thank you for your help. As Pete said in the previous email, I have very specific needs that require PHP 5.
Specifically, I want to use AJAX (Asynchronous Javascript and XML) to make calls between the server and the client.
Javascript, the client-side language, makes a HTTPRequest to the server-side language PHP. PHP 4 does not understand
the HTPP request and throws an error. Thus the need for PHP 5.

I wanted to give you an update on my query about loading PHP 5 on SE Linux.
On a whim I moved my web pages with the AJAX calls to the server using EnGarde Secure Linux.
The AJAX function calls worked beautifully.
So my need for PHP 5 is no longer.
I can only say that all the literature on Asynchronous Javascript and XML flatly states that PHP 5 is needed for server side work.
That claim is apparently false.
I might have more to add as I continue to test.
