RAID 5 not detected

Postby Jay A on Mon Feb 23, 2009 7:49 am

Hi all,

This is my first time using Engarde.

I ran a default installation with automatic partitioning of the main cciss disk, which produced the following disk layout

Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/cciss/c0d0p2 2.0G 487M 1.4G 26% /
/dev/cciss/c0d0p3 33G 130M 31G 1% /home
/dev/cciss/c0d0p4 33G 215M 31G 1% /var

However the hardware configured 400GB (RAID 5) array doesn't seem to have been picked up by Engarde.
Running modprobe, fsck, mount etc produces no results...just goes to the shell prompt.

Also the disk shown above c0d0p2/3/4 doesn't display under the "Filesystem" section of the web interface.

I believe the root user has the sysadm_r role already assigned so I'm not sure why I can't get any results from modprobe or fsck or why the existing filesystem isn't displayed in the web interface.

Can anyone help or point me in the right direction?

Many thank in advance.

Have you booted into EnGarde? If so then it's most certainly being seen; it not showing up under "Filesystems" could just be due to the /dev/cciss special-case.

Hi Ryan,

I've booted into Engarde no problem but no sign of the 400GB array when I run a "du -h". Only the primary disk is show - which Engarde is booting off.
There is also no entry in fstab. Is there any reason for modprobe and fsck not running under the root login?

Any suggestions would be great :-)

Many thanks

Managed to sort this out.

Place SELinux into permissive mode which allowed me to use fdisk to configure the array.

Many thanks for the help :)
