SquirrelMail Error Login, first installation

Make a step by step installation of SquirrelMail, when I try to login I send this error:
Error opening ../data/default_pref
Could not create initial preference file!
/var/local/squirrelmail/data/ should be writable by user webd
Please contact your system administrator and report this error.

Where did you get the instructions for installing SquirrelMail? Make sure you are following
the directions outlined here:
