Hey ryan,
I didn't install this package manually, I installed it along with the = install as part of the intrusion detection options. I installed netdiff = manually and that is working fine.

Are you _positive_ you installed the snort package in Permissive mode? This problem has all the hallmarks of the package being installed in Enforcing mode.
