Appreciate the help...got lorcon installed per the README in BT4 r2. Looks like this is gonna be trial-and-error.
I'm getting a different error on my USB wi-fi devices now when running the test.rb script: "test.rb:33: in 'fmode=': Lorcon could not set the functional mode: Unable to create VAP: No such device (ArgumentError)"
I see this error regardless of which USB wi-fi device is plugged in, or if nothing is plugged in.

That means you haven't installed the Lorcon2 drivers. Have a look at
the README in the Lorcon2 directory for information on how to do it.
I'm surprised it isn't installed by default on BT4 but I've not got an
install to check it.
